The Methodist Law Centre at Sante Fe has created the Virgil D. Hawkins Human Rights Law Clinic at Sante Fe in honor of the life and legacy of Virgil D. Hawkins (1906 - 1988).
At the Methodist Law Centre, we understand how important it is to protect the moral, religious, and historical foundations of American constitutional law and jurisprudence, so that our American body politic, the American bar, and American bench do not lose focus of the central objectives and purpose of, inter alia, the Civil War Amendments and subsequent federal civil rights statutes. We believe that teaching and training the next generation of clergymen, legislators, law practitioners, and judges is vital to maintaining that focus and to preserving the Judea-Christian and constitutional foundations of American democracy.
To that end, the Methodist Law Centre at Sante Fe is committed to partnering with the local churches, public schools of Alachua County, the Sante Fe College, and the University of Florida in order to help teach and train aspiring high school, college, and law students seeking to pursue careers in public policy and administration, law, social services, religious or church services, and education.
Law students who are currently enrolled at the UF Levin College of Law are encouraged to apply for research grants to work as law interns on pending prisoner's rights and civil rights cases by sending inquiries to admin@methodistlawcentre.com .
