Poor and Minority Justice is what we do!
Our understanding of social justice reform for the poor and marginalized is based upon a deep and profound respect for human beings (regardless of status) and that human dignity is sine qua non.
We believe that the preaching of the Gospel of Christ must be made manifest in our deeds-- and not simply in our words! And that our deeds include providing legal aid to the socially and economically disadvantaged.
To that end, the Methodist Law Centre has partnered with various church organizations throughout the nation to form the "POOR & MINORITY JUSTICE ASSOCIATION-- LEGAL DEFENSE FUND, INC." which supports several of our legal assistance projects.
The Legal Defense Fund, Inc. endeavors to have a national and international influence on social justice reform, human rights, and the law.
We are an Ecumenical Platform for Ordained Pastors and Lawyers who are interested in promoting Social Justice through real court cases that are pending in either the State or Federal Courts. We handle very difficult Civil Rights, Class Actions, Human Rights, and Social Justice Matters. We work with Law Firms throughout the nation, in order to help attain justice for the poor and vulnerable, whether in the field of Labor and Employment Discrimination, Prisoner's Rights, Post-Conviction Relief, claims under Section 1983, and other related Social Justice Matters, in both State and Federal Court.
The Public Interest Law - Legal Defense Fund is here to help! What makes our Legal Assistance Teams unique, is that we include the ecumenical Church (e.g., chaplains, ordained pastors, deacons, elders, and bishops of many faith-traditions) on our legal assistance ministry/ investigative support teams. As the voice of the Church to the Bar and the Bench, we aim to be a respected leader in the American legal profession, as well as a major catalyst for human rights and social policy.
Our general philosophy of community service is expressed in Luke 10: 25-37.
The Ordinary People Society (TOPS) carries out the Great Commission of the Christian Church (Matt. 28:19) which is to make disciples of all nations through prison fellowship and ministry—i.e., “I was in prison, and ye visited me.” (Matt. 25:36).
The Methodist Law Centre is a proud strategic partner of The Ordinary People Society (T.O.P.S.) in a quest for Post-Conviction Relief and the vindication of Prisoner's Rights.
